Doha: Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al Ghanim praised close ties between Qatar and his country and said the strategic relationship is deep-rooted in history.
In an interview with Al Sharq, Al Ghanim highlighted collaboration between Qatar’s Advisory (Shura) Council and Kuwait’s parliament and said it is a successful and perfect example of cooperation between parliaments.
He said the Council is a main supporter and actor in the success of the march of Arab Inter-parliamentary Union (APU).
The Council is a formal framework for public participation in the management of the country’s affairs, he said, adding the Qatari parliamentary experience is advanced and noteworthy, thanks to the faith of the leadership led by Emir
H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
He said Qatar’s hosting of FIFA World Cup 2022 will be an important milestone in organising World Cup tournaments, thanks to the country’s good management and organisation of previous tournaments.
On trade exchange, Al Ghanim said it had not reached the required level yet.
Regarding the Palestinian cause, Al Ghanim said it must be in our Arab conscience as a central issue and at the forefront of political and humanitarian concerns. Diplomatic struggle should continue in every continental or international forum to reveal facts about Israel and its ongoing abuse of the Palestinians’ rights.
On the Syrian crisis, Al Ghanim stressed the need to reach a political solution that is regionally and politically supported and stop bloodshed and destruction of infrastructure in Syria. He said Kuwait hosted three international donor conferences to help the Syrian people and contribute to solving the crisis.
With regard to Yemen, he said Kuwait hosted peace consultations between Yemeni parties to contribute to reaching a solution to stop bloodshed and restore stability.
He also confirmed the keenness of Kuwait and other GCC states to create a calm atmosphere and enjoy neighbourly and cooperation relations with Iran.
He said Gulf security and stability is the red line that should not be crossed and all Gulf states and Iran are equal partners in the region.
Al Ghanim also talked about the GCC march and said despite all circumstances, the continuation of GCC for 35 years is a success.
The GCC march might not have lived up to the level of the ambition of GCC peoples, but having a minimum of cooperation is a point that must be built upon, he added.
