Doha: The second stage of youth initiatives of Qatar Charity (QC) has started mobilising support and donations for Niger with the help of journalists, athletes and preachers in Qatar.
The participating youth initiatives are Tomoh, Unforgotten, Media Club at Qatar University, Qgadha, Sawaid Qatar, Our Hope, and Marsal Qatar.
The initiatives were inaugurated as part of QC’s ‘Awayidna Nobader’ programme to collect donations for the needy people in Niger in the beginning of Ramadan.
QC coordinated with the six initiatives on a humanitarian trip to Niger to identify the needs of the people. The teams will compete to mobilise maximum donations during Ramadan.
During the trip, 600 food baskets were distributed in three villages and about  100 orphans, sponsored by QC, and visits were made to productive families.
Nasser Al Mogaiseeb, Director,  Marketing Executive Management, QC, said: “The Awayidna Nobader programme aims at establishing and implementing projects in Niger by holding charity competitions between the youth initiatives. The fields we will cover are education, health, water, economic empowerment, housing, culture and dawa.”
Several Qatari athletes, journalists, and preachers, Preacher Sheikh Ayesh Al Qahtani, Human Development Trainer Salah Al Yafi’i, Qatari Poet Nasser Lubeer, Journalists Nayef Al Meslimani, Mohammed Sal’an, Saud Al M’adeed, and Abdul Rahman Al Harmoozi, and member of QC’s Network for Social Media participated.
Al Mogaiseeb said donations will be collected through QC’s website, collection points at malls and QC’s Community Development Centres in Qatar.
After the participants arrived in Niger, a programme for the orphans who received the delegation was organised. Some plays on orphans and their conditions were staged, along with games for children.
Aisha Al Humeid, Chief of the Programme,  Marketing Executive Management, QC, said the winning contributor will be chosen based on the amount of money collected. “I encourage all donors and philanthropists to support such initiatives to help implement projects for our brothers and sisters in Niger,” she said.
