New York---US shares opened slightly lower Friday, shrugging off the Shanghai market plunge, with ConAgra Foods (+6.9 percent) in play on a shake-up push by activist investor Jana Partners.
About five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was off 21.28 points (0.12 percent) at 18,094.56, and the broad-based S&P 500 slipped 2.86 (0.13 percent) to 2,118.38.
After sweeping to a new record Thursday, the Nasdaq Composite Index lost 2.03 points (0.04 percent) at 5,130.92.
