Saudi artist opens expo at Katara

DOHA: Saudi artist Naiel Mulla has opened ‘Oriental Melody’ exhibition at Katara — his first solo show outside his country.
The exhibition starts Mulla’s tour that will cover the Arab region and Europe. He has so far participated in more than 50 collective exhibitions and competitions since 1982.
The exhibition displays a wide range of distinctive paintings featuring the artists’ heritage, cultural and Islamic roots. It also showcases a vintage collection of paintings reflecting the history and the Saudi culture, specifically Mecca which is the birthplace of the artist who studied art in Ireland and Spain and spent four decades painting to capture the oriental spirit of the region and its rich inspirations.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Katara General Manager Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti along with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia H E Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Aifan, in the presence of a number of heads of diplomatic missions and artists.
“Through his paintings displayed at this exhibition, Saudi artist, Naiel Mulla artistically conveyed the oriental spirit of the Arabia Gulf, a true artist of his cultural environment. This exhibition offers a good opportunity for all interested in capturing genuine features and spirit of Saudi and Gulf art scenes,” said Al Sulaiti.
Thanking Katara, Ambassador Al Aifan said “This cultural hub and platform that welcomes artists from the Gulf and beyond and celebrates their work through offering them exposure to multi-cultural audience deserves gratitude and appreciation for playing such a vital role. I’m thrilled and grateful for my presence in Katara. It is really a complete cultural village that seeks to bring various cultures together in one remarkable venue.”
