Doha: Qatar Foundation (QF)’s community development initiatives are designed to empower and engage members of society. The foundation's community outreach programmes have been attracting a large number of people.

Programmes and initiatives by QF’s Community Development have been proven to be effective are as they are aligned with the community's needs. Some buildings and places are major attractions for the public due to their architecture and design, according to QF’s Community Development team.

QF’s flagship Education City is not just home for leading educational institutes, a homegrown research university, start-up incubators, and technology parks but also for heritage sites, cultural institutions, and places for recreation.

A total of 1,516,631 people have explored different venues for the community within the Education City over the past year, QF’s Community Development team revealed to The Peninsula.

The venues for community members include 11 meeting and conference rooms, three AV rooms and lounges, three theatres, three halls; three special purpose venues, Qataf Kitchen, art gallery and cinema. Sports venues include 10 swimming pools; 16 fitness gyms and studios; 12 indoor multi-purpose courts; and 14 outdoor sports courts,

The major initiatives and porgrammes by QF’s Community Development include core sport and recreation programmes.

It offers a variety of 15 sports with more than 200 classes per term for public registration; special programmes for girls and women offering ladies only weekly programmes and venues and monthly related events; programmes for youth provide leagues and tournaments for university students; community fit membership gives exclusive access to swimming pools and gyms, and special discounts on sports classes and facilities; and the venue administration and development programme offers a variety of community venues and sports facilities in six locations all over and around Doha.

Unveiled in 2019, Seeroo fi al ardh by late artist M F Husain is part QF’s growing art collection at Education City.

“Around 400-450 people annually visit the different locations where art pieces are located within the Education City including partner universities, Seeroo fi al Ardh, and the Education City mosque through our arts unit,” said QF’s Community Development team.

They said Multaqa – the student centre – is attracting the most visitors. Various Education City buildings with innovative designs are also attracting a large number of people.
