Doha: The Doha Municipality has inspected 803 food outlets and salons since the beginning of this month and found 119 facilities not complying with the conditions required by law. A total of 684 food outlets and men’s and women’s salons complied with requirements.
The municipality closed down 14 erring outlets, five of them on Sunday. The outlets include restaurants and food facilities. The duration of the closure is from 10 to 20 days.
Violations included displaying food unfit for human consumption, preparing it in poor condition, not complying with specific standards and expired licences.
Inspectors also destroyed 64.5 tonnes of food, including 26 tonnes of vegetables, 30 tonnes of fruits, 2.5 tonnes of fish and six tonnes of meat.
Al Daayen Municipality, meanwhile, shut down two food outlets — a bakery and a supermarket. The bakery was closed for 14 days and the supermarket for 30 days for selling food unfit for human consumption. The Peninsula
