At one of the world’s biggest women’s tennis tournaments, boasting the likes of Angelique Kerber and Dominika Cibulkova, the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) highlighted the vital work undertaken by its programme Educate A Child to transform the lives of millions of the poorest and most marginalised children around the world through education.
Sport and education are vital components of a child’s development, which was emphasised by EAA’s presence at the sporting event.
Attendees at the Qatar Total Open were invited to take part in a ‘leap motion game’, whilst children helped to paint a map showing the 48 countries in which Educate A Child is working with partners to enable out of schoolchildren to access the quality education they deserve.
Young supporters of the programme’s work were able to have their picture taken with the Qatar Total winner, Karolina Pliskova, and runner up, Caroline Wozniacki, to raise awareness of the importance of providing education in some of the hardest to reach communities in the world. There are currently 61 million children around the world who are unable to attend primary school. Educate A Child is focused on breaking down the barriers preventing access to education, which include culture, poverty, conflict and instability, and gender discrimination. Through Educate A Child and its strong partnership network, Education Above All is significantly reducing the number of children worldwide who are missing out on their right to education.
