Doha: Dr. César O Malavé (pictured) has taken over as Dean of Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ).
Malavé was professor and head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University and head chair of the Sugar and Mike Barnes Department.
He was named to his new post earlier this spring. “TAMUQ is educating the next generation of engineering leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs in Qatar and I am honoured to have been selected to serve in this capacity,” Malavé said.
“I look forward to the opportunity to work with the faculty and staff as they continue to educate world-class engineers and conduct relevant, impactful research that addresses Qatar’s grand challenges.”
Dr. Malavé succeeds Dr. Mark H Weichold, who stepped down as dean and CEO to become executive director of the Halliburton Global Engineering Programme in Texas A&M’s College of Engineering.
Dr. Ann L Kenimer served as interim dean since Weichold’s term ended in December 2015.
As Dean, Dr Malavé is responsible for administrating and managing the academic, research and outreach programmes of the branch campus and providing vision and direction for the engineering-oriented branch campus in Qatar.
Before his appointment as department head, Dr Malavé served in several administrative positions in College of Engineering at Texas A&M. These included assistant dean for international programmes, assistant and associate director of Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (TEES), and associate dean for recruitment and international programmes.
