Doha: In line with its purpose to ‘feed and foster communities’, McDonald’s Qatar collaborated with Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Qatar Blood Donor Center to organise a voluntary employee blood donation drive to mark World Blood Donor Day 2022.

To support the enthusiastic volunteers of the McFamily, voluntary employees from McDonald’s 66 restaurant branches in Qatar as well as volunteers from the company’s head management – in this corporate social responsibility pursuit, the popular quick-service restaurant (QSR) leader facilitated the trip and all logistics to the blood donation center in close cooperation with HMC.

Qatar has been 100 percent self-sufficient in blood supply for the last 10 years as it receives the support of thousands of regular blood donors in the country. However, with Qatar preparing to host the world’s biggest sporting event in November, FIFA World Cup 2022, with more than 1.5 million visitors slated to come to the country, HMC’s Blood Donor Center is calling on eligible members of the community to become blood donors to ensure enough blood stocks for the event.

Mithqual Abu Nasser, McDonald’s Qatar General Manager explained: “I am pleased and honored to be one of the first donors to serve the country and I encourage McDonald’s employees to continue donating for this noble initiative. Today, McDonald’s Qatar operates a network of 66 restaurants across the country; thus, we are aware that with a scale like ours, when we contribute even a little, our contributions can mean a lot to our community.”

HMC’s Qatar Blood Donor Center is the only health organisation responsible for provision of blood supplies for the whole state of Qatar including all governmental and private health institutes.

Dr. Einas Al Kuwari, HMC Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology said: “We are delighted to have celebrated this day, World Blood Donor Day, with the McFamily. It is always really refreshing to see more and more people from across our nation’s market workforce give back to the local community. Our family at the Qatar Blood Donor Center thanks McDonald’s Qatar and all the donors for their contributions today.”
