A total of 2,092 Qataris are pursuing bachelor’s degree, master’s and PhD on scholarship at Qatar University, in Education City and foreign universities.
To increase the number of students on scholarship, SEC has raised the number of universities, colleges and disciplines.
At present Qataris are given scholarships to study at 900 universities in 46 countries. Another 560 institutions mainly in the UK, the US and Australia have been added.
A list of the universities, colleges and community colleges will be soon available on the SEC website.
About 43 percent of universities and colleges on the list are in the US, 17 percent in the UK and three percent in Australia. Nine universities are in Arab countries, Dr Al Hurr said.
Also students who need to do a foundation course will be entitled to do it under the scholarship or study at a community college for one year and change the university.
However, basic conditions to apply for scholarships to pursue bachelor’s degree, master’s and PhD remain unchanged.
Only Qataris can apply for scholarships and must not be on any other scholarship. The applicant must not be working and, if working in the public sector, must be nominated by his company to join the study programme. The applicant should not have obtained a degree similar to the degree to be pursued.
The applicant should have good grades from high school to enrol for a bachelor’s degree, have a bachelor’s degree with good grades if applying for a master’s, and a master’s with good marks if applying for a PhD.
Those who have studied for one year on their expense and with outstanding performance can apply for scholarship.
