Fierce battles mark second round of QSDC

Doha, Qatar: The second round of the Qatar Sand Drag Competition (QSDC) concluded with fierce competition, featuring a distinguished group of sand drag racing champions from Qatar and the wider Gulf region, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Held under the generous patronage of Qatar Racing Club Chairman H E Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani, the event showcased high-calibre performances and reaffirmed the championship’s growing stature in regional motorsport.

This round delivered dramatic battles and witnessed record-setting performances never before seen in the championship. The highlight came in the Open Class on the second day, where last round’s champion Youssef Al-Ali set a new record on his second attempt with a time of 2.688 seconds, securing first place. Abdulaziz Al-Yahya finished second, earning his second consecutive podium after also taking runner-up in the opening round.

The first day, dedicated to motorcycle and Polaris competitions, saw Waleed Al-Shershani claim his second title in the Motocross category, which featured 20 competitors.  In the ATV (four-wheel quad bikes) categories, divided into three classes, Jasim Hassan won the Modified Class, ahead of AbdulSamad Al-Shatti, with Mohammed Al-Mazmi finishing third.

The Pro-Modified Class title went to last round’s runner-up Mohammed Al-Mazmi, while Abdullah Al-Mazmi and Abdullah Abdulaziz took second and third consecutively.

In the strongest ATV category, the Open Class, a new champion emerged: Mesh’al Al-Fahd, recording the best time of the round.

The UTV competitions were also divided into three classes. The Modified Class produced an identical podium to that of the previous round, with Abdullah Al-Sulaiti taking first place while the Pro-Modified Class podium also mirrored the previous round, with Mahna Al-Naimi in first. In the top UTV category, the Open Class, Yaqoub Al-Alawi claimed his second consecutive victory.

In the Polaris Kids Category, Hammoud Al-Sulaiti set the fastest time to secure his second straight victory, followed by Khaled Al-Mohammedi in second and Nasr Al-Nasr in third.

The second day featured car competitions across several classes, including three categories for six-cylinder engines.

The Nitrous Class title went to Mazahim Al-Kaabi, while last round’s winner Faisal Al-Balushi finished second, ahead of Abdulrahman Al-Sayed in third.

The Turbo Class was split into two divisions. Stock Body Class: Last round’s runner-up Youssef Al-Ali took first place while in Modified Body Class, Waleed Al-Dagheshem, who finished third in the previous round, claimed the title.

In the 8-Cylinder Nitrous Class, the title went to Khalid Al-Habsi, with Khalfaan Hamdan finishing second and last round’s champion Issa Musharrabk taking third.

Buggy competitions were contested across two categories. In the Spring Suspension class, Abdullah Al-Sulaiti claimed victory with the fastest time while in the Airbag Suspension class, the podium featured Mehna Al-Naimi in first place.

QRC Director Sheikh Jabor bin Khalid Al-Thani honored the top three finishers. The championship will resume at the end of March 2026.
