A photo and rare books exhibition and a jazz concert kicked off the Romanian Cultural Days at the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara yesterday.
The four-day festival is organised by the Romanian Cultural Institute in cooperation with the Romanian Embassy and Katara.
The exhibition held at Building 19, Gallery 2 was inaugurated by Katara Human Resources Director Saif Al Saeed and Romanian Ambassador Dr Cristian Tudor. It showcases rare books on Romania, its people, Romanian folktales, Romanian folk culture, The Story of Carpathians Salt, Celestial maps of Cellarius on manual paper, among others. Also on display are old photos of Romania and a number of paintings of Romanian landscape.
The Jazz musical evening at the Katara Drama Theatre featuring the Pan Terra Jazz Band as well received by an enthusiastic and distinguished audience including the Romanian ambassador and other dignitaries.
“It’s very nice and beautiful event in which you can see Romania in the art form. I am sure music from our part of the world will be appreciated by the people in Qatar. It is indeed very commendable for Katara to be hosting this and we from Romania are glad and thankful. I hope more and more people come and see the exhibition and musical events,” said Dana Popescu, a Romanian expatriate who attended the concert with her friends.
The audience also comprised members of the various expatriate communities in Qatar.
“Doha is a melting pot of cultures culture, history and music which brings these elements to the fore for all of us to see, listen and enjoy. It’s great being here,” said a music aficionado who was present at the jazz event.
Audiences also enjoyed the concerts of ConTempo Ensemble on Wednesday and Iona Maria Ardelean last night. The Arcadia Quartet will feature the final concert tonight at 7pm at Katara Drama Theatre.
