Islamabad: The weekly inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) in Pakistan witnessed an increase of 4.57 percent on a year-on-year basis, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Friday.

The SPI was calculated to measure the price movement of important commodities and it comprised 51 essential items collected from 50 markets in 17 cities across the country.

The PBS said that the prices of gas, tomatoes, cigarettes, sugar, wheat flour, eggs, beef and vegetable oil were increased during the week ending on Oct. 16, 2025, compared to the corresponding period last year.

On the other hand, the prices of chicken, onions, garlic, tea, potatoes, pulses and others decreased during the same period.

Also, the SPI rose slightly by 0.49 percent on a week-on-week basis. Out of 51 items, prices of 24 items increased, eight items decreased and 19 items remained stable, said the PBS.
