The new academic year ushers in another year of learning not only for students but for the teacher’s professional development as well. The Arabic-speaking teachers and staff of Qatar Academy received their first session yesterday as leading Qatari counselor Abdullrahman Al Harami (pictured) returns to the campus to present a motivational talk which, according to Senior School Assistant Principal Maha Al Romaihi focuses on “how to start the year positively, how to give more and be more effective with students and how to consistently develop work ethics.”
Al Harami, a well-known educator and TV and radio presenter, is familiar with QA’s community, having worked with the senior school students last school year. “He began providing weekly counseling sessions to our students, parenting workshops and camps last year,” Al Romaihi says. “We are happy to expand our work with him this year as he is scheduled to train our Arabic staff teachers on many topics, giving sessions about strengthening our students’ dynamic cultural values and so much more”.
Primary School teachers Doa’a Ahmed Abu Joudeh and Zayid Qassim, Academic Coordinators for Islamic Studies and Arabic, respectively, shares that the lecture was both enjoyable and interesting.
“The first session centered on developing teacher skills in Qatar Academy – an international school with many nationalities and diverse cultural backgrounds,” Qassim says. “There were some new information and practical methods of instruction that is consistent with the technological developments in the world and QA’s own integrative approach to technology in the classroom”. Abu Joudeh adds: “His message aligns with QA’s Arabic and Islamic Studies programs and really motivated us to work better for our students”.
