DOHA: Qatar University (QU) said yesterday it had admitted 2,441 Qatari and 1,214 non-Qatari students for Fall 2016. The new academic session begins next month.
All Qatari applicants who met the criteria were admitted on the basis of availability and capacity within each college and major.
Admission is subjected to students’ attendance in orientation sessions to be held from September 3 to 8. Failure to attend the sessions would lead to cancellation of admission for this semester, QU said in a statement yesterday.
It said: “Attending the New Student Orientation is mandatory to acquaint and familiarise new students with the exciting opportunities QU offers.”
Orientation sessions are distributed based on the college of enrolment. There are two sessions on September 3 and 4 for male students and sessions from September 5 to 8 are for females.
The New Student Orientation is the starting point for all new students to be fully prepared from their very first day of the semester.
It gives them opportunity to meet college deans and department heads, interact with other students in their college by participating in activities, seek advice from current students and learn about academic support and student services.

The participants also get advice on academic matters and course selection during meeting with academic advisers, and learn how to use QU portal and QU email.
QU Parents Programme will hold an open day on September 24 to promote the community partnership between the university and the parents.
Parents will be invited to join a campus tour to know more about QU’s facilities and the teaching mechanism within the university.
