DOHA: In a rare move, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has shut down five stalls at a commercial exhibition being organised at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center adjacent to City Center.
The stalls have been closed down temporarily for violating the consumer protection law, until they rectify the error, the Ministry said yesterday.
The violations include a failure to announce the prices and details of products and giving false information about the products, among others. The erring outlets were caught during an extensive inspection campaign launched by the Ministry in  the beginning of Ramadan, said a statement.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment destroyed around 500kg of fish at Al Wakra fish market, as the entire quantity was found unfit for human consumption.
The Ministry has intensified inspections at eateries, fish outlets, stores, fruit and vegetable shops and butcheries since the beginning of the Holy Month. It has also provided 347 garbage bins at 199 Iftar tents throughout the country, said Safar Al Shafi, Head, Cleaning Department. The number of tents has increased by 18 percent to 169 compared to last year.
