Vice-President of Argentina offers support to Dr Al Kawari

Gabriela Michetti, Vice- President of the Republic of Argentina and President of the Senate, met with H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari, Cultural Adviser at the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the director-general at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the excellent relations between Qatar and Argentina in all fields. The Vice President of Argentina affirmed her country's support for the Qatari candidate and wished him success.

This came after Dr Al Kawari presented his vision for the management of this UN organisation in the light of the discussion with candidates held by the Executive Board of the Unesco last month, explaining his assessment of the financial crisis and its political background and stressing the role of education in his vision and his interest in heritage as well as his keenness to cooperate and consult with Latin American countries.

Al Kawari also met with Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Pedro Villagra Delgado and Ministry of Culture Secretariat of Federal Integration and International Cooperation Petrella Ivan.

The two sides reviewed all the points raised in the discussion with candidates held by in the Executive Board. Al Kawari answered questions raised by the Argentine side on various aspects.

They talked about the political aspects of the financial crisis of Unesco, the dialogue with the United States and a detailed explanation of the details of the initiative by Qatar's candidate concerning the fund for small industries as well as the candidate's vision for issues of interest to Latin American countries in general and Argentina in particular.

The Argentine delegation welcomed the clear and bold views of the Qatari candidate that are supported by the international community. The two officials welcomed the cooperation with Qatari candidate and supported his plan to overcome Unesco's crisis and enable it to serve its objectives in education, culture, science and communication in order for the Organization to assume the status it deserves to serve the international community and achieve the peace for which the Organization was founded.

The meetings were attended by Charge d'Affaires of Qatar's Embassy in Argentina Mohammed bin Sultan Al Kuwari.
