Embassy & ICC hold ‘A Passage to India’ festival

Doha: The Indian embassy and the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) organised the third edition of Indian Community Festival 2016 — A Passage to India — to celebrate 125th Birthday of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar on Thursday at Museum of Islamic Art Park from 6pm.

The event was well-attended by the Indian, local and other expatriate communities. Life-size models of PSLV Rocket (Mangalayaan) and Indian Railway Locomotive by Friends of Pathanamthitta Jilla were among the attractions at the event. 
The cultural programme started from 6pm and talented artists from the affiliated organisations of ICC and students of Indian Schools in Doha gave a wonderful performance and wowed the audience. There were six food stalls from the best Indian restaurants in town which served mouth-watering Indian delicacies.
There were also stalls from the ICC-affiliated organisation and other commercial organisation which displayed Indian handicrafts and traditional and modern dress materials and jewellery.
Sanjiv Arora, Indian Ambassador to Qatar and Patron of ICC, inaugurated the event at 8pm, along with other dignitaries. Artistes sponsored by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the government of India, welcomed the ambassador and other dignitaries with a traditional Kalbeliya performance. Lt. Abdul Wahid, a representative from the Ministry of Interior; Micheal Kool, Chairman and Managing Director, Qatar Shell; other Indian officials, guests from other embassies, business leaders, ICC President Girish Kumar; ICBF President Aravind Patil; IBPN President K M Varghese; heads of  Indian schools, ICC management committee Members, heads of ICC-affiliated organisations, representatives of the sponsors and media were present.The Peninsula
