
DOHA: Prices of 400 medicines have been reduced by an average of over 26 percent, in the third phase of a price cut being enforced by the Ministry of Public Health. Some medicines have become cheaper by more than 82 percent.
Prices of 76 medicines have been reduced for the second time. They include medicines for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, muscles and bones, gastrointestinal, eye diseases, the ministry said yesterday.
The current phase includes 400 medicines with the prices falling by 0.24 percent to 82.93 percent. The average price fall has been put at 26.13pc.
The Pharmacy and Drug Control Department at the Ministry has issued a revised price list, which includes medicines used for treatment of several life-threatening diseases like cancer.
With implementation of the third phase, prices of 2,873 medicines have been reduced in the country, said a ministry statement. This constitutes 62.5 percent of the total 4,600 registered drugs in the country, it added.
The first phase implemented in September 2014 included 1285 medicines, with reduction percentage between 0.45percent and 79.2percent. The Peninsula
