Doha:  Qatar football team has moved three spots, according to latest FIFA world rankings.

Ranked 101 prior to the latest list released by FIFA on Thursday, Qatar are now at number 98.

Coached by Fahad Al Thani, Qatar has notched up two wins in recent weeks and subsequently jumped three places.

Qatar, hosts of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, last month beat Malaysia in a 2015 Asian Cup qualifier followed by a win over African giants Egypt in an international friendly earlier this month.

Neighboring United Arab Emirates are ranked 99 while oil-rich Saudi Arabia are at 106.

In Asia, Qatar are ranked number 8 behind leaders Japan, Australia, Korea, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Iraq.

The UAE, North Korea, Oman, Saudi Arabia, China, Kuwait, Bahrain, Vietnam, Lebanon and Syria are ranked below Qatar.

World and European champions Spain maintained its position at No. 1 while the top 10 teams remained unchanged.

Portugal technically dropped to seventh after being tied with Colombia for sixth last month.

Following Spain are Germany, Argentina, England, Italy, Colombia, Portugal, Netherlands, Croatia and Russia respectively.

In what could be a distressing development, 2014 FIFA World Cup hosts Brazil are at 18 for the fourth consecutive month.
