The Al Baraha courtyard at the Diplomatic Club was crowded with guests who had come to celebrate the inauguration of the Peruvian Food Festival. The opening ceremony took place in the presence of  Julio Florian, Ambassador of Peru, Adel Mahmoud Al Abdullah, Managing Director of Diplomatic Club, and invited guests.

The festival, from March 13 to 23, is taking place for the second consecutive year, and is aimed at highlighting the variety of tastes in Peruvian cuisine. Leading Peruvian chefs Javier Ampuero Figueroa and David Fernandez, who have been invited by Diplomatic Club, are providing their distinctive taste to Peruvian dishes and have brought along some of their own recipes.

Ambassador Florian said: “We are extremely happy to support this special celebration, and we believe that it is a remarkable step towards bringing to greater awareness Peru’s famous cuisine that reflects its culture and its people’s mentality.”

He added: “We are pleased to extend our sincere thanks to the Diplomatic Club for its wonderful hospitality, and we commend the good governance, excellence and leadership that helped bring this event to fruition”.

Al Abdullah said: “Food is no longer just a humanitarian need in specific times, but it is also a science and an art that sheds light on a culture and the country’s presence. Therefore, this idea emerged to help increase familiarity with Peru’s culture, and the festival itself has contributed to strengthening friendship between the Club’s visitors and guests, and has opened up prospects for promoting this idea with respect to other countries too.”

The festival starts at 7pm, offering a buffet for QR150 per person. The Peninsula
