Announcing 46 winners of the 10th edition of Scientific Excellence Awards, Dr Hamda Al Sulaiti, Chairperson of the Organising Committee and CEO of the Awards, said yesterday that a monument inscribed with the names of winners of last ten years will be inaugurated at Cultural Village – Katara in March this year.
Forty-six winners of the 10th edition of the Scientific Excellence Awards 2016 of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education were announced yesterday by Dr Hamda Al Sulaiti.
The results of the competition were announced at a press conference held at the Ministry in the presence of winners, including students from different schools. Al Sulaiti said that the total number of participants for this year's awards reached 262 and the highest number of nominees came from elementary schools, with 133 entries, preparatory schools (22), and 21 entries each from the high school and university.
The organizing committee also received 17 entries for the 'Outstanding Teacher Award’, 11 nominations from PhD holders and eight for the ‘Outstanding School Award, and 29 students competed in the category of ‘Scientific Research Award’, the CEO of the awards added.
The 46 winners included 22 students from primary and preparatory schools, nine students from high schools, two teachers, two students for scientific research, two PhD holders and one school.
The awards are attracting more participants every year and the winners of the Gold and Platinum awards will be honoured from each of the eight categories at a special ceremony to be held in March, said Hamda Al Sulati. The ceremony, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the awards, will also witness the publication of a memorial book which will include the awards' achievers of the past ten years, along with an exhibition and a monument with names of winners inscribed in the Cultural Village – Katara, Al Sulaiti announced.
Hassan Abdullah Al Mohammadi, Director of Public Relations at the Ministry and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Awards, said the organising committee held several meetings and workshops to introduce the awards, procedures for participattion, its categories, award’s coordinators in schools, universities, in addition to the terms and conditions of the awards. "We have discussed with Qatar Research Fund how winning researchers and their papers can be adopted and how their skills can be developed in areas of their interests," said Al Sulaiti.
Scientific Excellence Awards 2016 is one of the important events the country holds every year under the Ministry to honour outstanding students in Qatar with the highest scientific awards with aim of encouraging educational institutions and students to exert more efforts and enhance competitiveness.
