Mesmerising ‘Udaan’ of DPS-MIS students

The DPS-MIS senior wing celebrated its the 13th Annual Day titled ‘Udaan — Educate, Enrich, Empower The Girl Child’ with great gusto and fervour on December 12 in the school’s auditorium. It was an attempt to salute the undaunted spirit of women and convey the most pertinent message that education and empowerment of the girl child with ample opportunities are essential for a nation’s growth.
The function was attended by Chief Guest Sanjiv Arora, Ambassador of India to Qatar; President of DPS-MIS Executive Committee, Hassan Chougule;  Vice President and Director IT, Yasir Nainar; Director Finance, George Thomas, Director Administration, Rocky Fernandes; Director Transport, Azim Abbas; Director Facilities, Harish Kanjani; Director Public Relations, Sonny Varghese; other committee members, Principals of various schools, parents and other guests.
The day began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Qur’an by Master Ahamed Yaseen (VIII-I) and the same were rendered in English by Maria Khan (VIII-D). The air, thereafter, rang with the pulsating notes of melodious musical presentations, Jag Jao and Ud Ja both proclaiming the power of women, by the school choir in amalgamation with the school orchestra. A scintillating welcome dance transported the audience to a wonderland.
The occasion unfurled the saga of accolades and achievements accomplished by Class XII students (2012-2013) in Class XII board exams. They were given trophies and certificates by the distinguished guests. Teaching and the non-teaching staff of DPS-MIS who completed 10 years were awarded with a memento for their dedication and sincerity. 
Addressing the gathering, Principal AsnaNafees expressed her happiness to celebrate the annual day and said DPS-MIS believes in providing holistic development to the children so that they emerge as responsible global citizens. Speaking on the annual day theme, Nafees said that the students of DPS-MIS have tried to put forth an apposite social message through their cultural extravaganza. 
President DPS-MIS, Hassan Chougule, said there were students of 21 different nationalities and DPS-MIS is committed to provide the best education culture in Qatar.
Sanjiv Arora, in his speech, stressed on the importance of providing multi-dimensional, value-based education to students. He endorsed the theme and said that women truly epitomise courage, sacrifice and integrity and it is the need of the hour that the society should redefine its role and provide equal status and opportunities to girls for a better and stronger world.
An exuberant display of talents was the main attraction. The cultural fiesta was a mélange of colours, flairs and verve. It represented the power of Indian women from the ancient 13th century to the modern era in the form of skits, dances and tableau. 
The programme was planned and coordinated by MouBera (Headmistress-Activities) under the guidance of Principal Asna Nafees.
