Qatar’s Sheikh Ali claims silver at Islamic Solidarity Games

Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani  (pictured) yesterday secured the silver medal in the show jumping competition at the Islamic Solidarity Games, held at the Janadriyah Equestrian Center. 

Riding his horse Marco Monet, he clocked 34.62 seconds in the jump-off, finishing behind Saudi rider Khalid Al Mubti, while fellow Saudi Abdullah Al Sharbatly took bronze.

Qatar’s Ghanem Nasser Al Qadi and Mohammed Khalifa Al Baker finished 13th and 17th, respectively. The silver brought Qatar’s medal tally at the Games to five, including three golds and two silvers.

Other events at the Games include handball, where Qatar’s national team is preparing for its next match against the UAE today.

President of the Qatar Equestrian and Modern Pentathlon Federation Badr bin Mohammed Al Darwish expressed pride in Sheikh Ali bin Khalid Al Thani’s silver medal.

“Sheikh Ali delivered an outstanding performance, reflecting his technical readiness and experience. This achievement is a strong addition to Qatari equestrianism,” Al Darwish said.

He added, “Our training programs at all levels are proving effective, and we aim to build on this success in future tournaments.”

Turkiye continue to dominate the overall standings with 106 medals, comprising 58 gold, 28 silver, and 20 bronze. Uzbekistan are in second place with 50 medals (15 gold, 18 silver, 17 bronze), followed by Kazakhstan with 38 (11 gold, 12 silver, 15 bronze). Iran hold fourth position with 40 medals (10 gold, 12 silver, 18 bronze).
