London, Qatar: Qatari Diar marked the official opening of The Chancery Rosewood Hotel in central London with a high-profile event celebrating art, architecture, and elegant hospitality, unveiling a new luxury destination that seamlessly blends cultural heritage with contemporary design.
Housed in the former U.S. Embassy in Mayfair, the hotel has been transformed into a striking symbol of modern sophistication and architectural excellence in the heart of London.
The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Municipality and Chairman of Qatari Diar H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah and Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the United Kingdom H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al-Thani, CEO of Qatari Diar Eng. Ali Mohammed Al Ali, alongside CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group Sonia Cheng, President of Rosewood Hotels Radha Arora, and a number of dignitaries and guests.
The hotel occupies a Grade II listed historic building originally designed by renowned architect Eero Saarinen and revitalized by David Chipperfield Architects. The project reflects Qatari Diar’s commitment to restoring historic landmarks and transforming them into vibrant modern destinations that blend luxury with cultural identity.

On this occasion, H E Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah stressed that today is a historic moment with the opening of The Chancery Rosewood Hotel in London, which embodies Qatari Diar’s vision of reviving one of the city’s most iconic landmarks in a way that merges rich heritage with contemporary design. In partnership with Rosewood Group, they have delivered an exceptional hospitality experience that redefines luxury in London.
He added that Qatari Diar’s commitment to the British capital is steadfast, through the revitalization of historic sites with a modern vision, connecting Mayfair and Grosvenor Square with the local community as part of their broader vision for sustainable development.
For his part, CEO of Qatari Diar Eng. Ali Mohammed Al Ali said that The Chancery Rosewood Hotel represents a new milestone in Qatari Diar’s journey toward modern global urban development. This project reflects their fruitful partnership with Rosewood Group in transforming one of London’s most prominent landmarks into a global destination that blends luxury and culture.
In collaboration with Qatari Diar, their partners, and the local community, CEO of Rosewood Hotel Group Sonia Cheng commented, they have revived one of London’s most iconic historic sites, transforming it into a vibrant hub of art, culture, and contemporary design.
The hotel features 144 luxurious suites, elegantly designed public spaces, and views overlooking Grosvenor Square and Hyde Park.
It houses eight upscale restaurants and is crowned by the iconic golden eagle statue, standing 30 feet high and 10 feet wide.
The hotel also includes a grand ballroom accommodating up to 750 guests. In line with Qatari Diar’s commitment to sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of its projects, the hotel has received the prestigious BREEAM certification, making it the world’s first five-star hotel to earn this distinguished rating.
