The International Biobanking Conference 2019, will be an important opportunity to review Qatar’s progress in the field of biobanking and genomics in order to make personalised medicine a reality for the people of Qatar.
Qatar Biobank, a member of Qatar Foundation, will bring together local and international experts in biobanking and personalised medicine for the conference, which will take place from March 25 to 27 at Sheraton Grand Doha Resort & Convention Hotel.
“The conference is unique in many ways. It will discuss quality in biobanking, which is a new topic for everyone in Qatar. The conference will make it possible for experts in Qatar to share their ideas with international experts, and learn from each other,” Mohammed Al Dosari (pictured), Head of Communications and Participant Outreach at Qatar Biobank, told The Peninsula.
The three-day conference will be held under the theme ‘Quality Matters: A Global Discussion in Qatar.’ It is being organised in partnership with the European and Middle Eastern Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB), and supported by BBMRI-ERIC, a European research infrastructure for biobanking, and the International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories (ISBER).
“It will provide a unique opportunity for scientists, researchers, industry experts, and students to learn about the latest developments in the sector. Students in Qatar will also have a chance to exhibit their research to leading experts,” Mohammed Al Dosari, added.
The wide-ranging sessions and presentations at the conference are focused on reviewing quality in biobanking and beyond; the role of biobanks in healthcare; the importance of population biobanks; the use of big data and artificial intelligence in medical research; and the importance of international collaboration.
“This is a major step in our efforts to make very important medical research possible in Qatar. Researchers will now have a better chance to conduct research to help prevent major diseases in the long-term,” said Al Dosari.
