15% rise in passengers at Hamad International Airport

Passengers number at Hamad International Airport has increased by 15.1% in December 2016 as compared with the same month last year. Civil Aviation Authority released the figures showing that the number of travellers has gone up from 2,915,211 to 3,356,739 in the month of December 2016. 

 

Meanwhile aircraft movements at the airport also increased by 13.2% during December 2016. While in December 2015 there were 19,252 flight movements, the figures went up to 21,788 in 2016. 

 

Hamad International Airport (HIA) recently became the first airport in the Middle East to win the 5-Star Airport designation by Skytrax. The highest rating – five stars – has previously only been awarded to five other airports worldwide: Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo-Haneda and Munich.
