Tamil Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Basant Kumar Birla Auditorium of Birla Public School. The event is held annually to pay homage to Thiruvalluvar, the most revered Tamil poet and philosopher, and celebrate the harvest festival of Pongal. The welcome address was delivered by Narasimhan Ravi, a Grade 9 student, who spoke about customs and traditions prevalent in Tamil Nadu. A cultural pageant put up by the students, who study Tamil as their second language, evoked feelings of nostalgia about their home state. The main attractions of the day included a peasant dance, a Tamiliamudhu song, a Bharathiyar song, an Avvaiyaar song, a Bharatanatyam performance and a Pride of Tamil Nadu dance.
