Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has dedicated today’s radio programme “Abwab Al Rahama” for collecting donations to provide urgent humanitarian aid for people fighting for survival in Aleppo city of war-torn Syria.
The programme, which in English means 'Doors of Mercy', is being organised by RAF in collaboration with the Radio for the Holy Quran.
Ambassadors of mercy will participate in the programme to give the audience first-hand information about the situation on the ground in Aleppo to convince philanthropists to make donation. The emergency response unit at RAF has begun the preparations to provide basic needs to the displaced people in Aleppo.
As per the plan, the beneficiaries will be provided tents, blankets, heaters, fuel and clothes. They will also be given canned foods, food baskets, baby milk, medical supplies and health kits.
RAF has intensified efforts in the last couple of days in collaboration with humanitarian organizations working in Syria to dispatch aid materials to help the displaced people who managed to flee east Aleppo and those who are planning to leave their homes within a few days.
According to media reports, Aleppo is facing a severe humanitarian crisis. The east of Aleppo has been besieged and is being bombarded for more than 20 days causing huge destruction and casualties. Some of the victims are heading towards west part of Aleppo.
According to reports, the number of displaced people reached 60,000 during the first ten days of December. The shelling has intensified in the past three days. The citizens are under siege in several parts of Aleppo after Bashar Al Assad's forces took control of Al Firdus, Al Salihin and Masakin Hananu areas. More than 80,000 people are trapped in the districts of Al Zibdiay, Al Mashhad, Al Ansari, Salahuddin and parts of Al Sukari district in an area of about 2km and they lack basic services. Health facilities became scarce and there is a severe shortage of basic food stuff.
The civil defence of Syria announced on November 13 that they are unable to estimate the number of victims because the streets are full of dead bodies and it was difficult to take out the corpses from underneath the debris due to intense shelling.
Residents of Aleppo are expected to leave their homes within few days. And the displaced families from besieged areas, numbering about 16,000, will head towards areas under the control of Bashar regime. The two main destinations will be rural areas in the east and north of Aleppo, Azaz, Jarablus or the rural areas of Idlib governorate. There are hundreds of families left in the west part of Aleppo city.
