H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, discussed the worsening situation in Aleppo, with John Kerry, US Secretary of State, during a telephonic conversation, yesterday. They talked about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the city of Aleppo and means for joint coordination .
The Foreign Minister stressed the need for serious work in order to achieve an immediate cessation of the attacks on Aleppo and for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities towards the protection of the civilians. The Foreign Minister highlighted the need for opening safe paths and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
He also held a telephone conversation with Dr Riyad Hijab, Chairman of the high committee of the Syrian negotiations. During the call, they discussed the situation in Syria, particularly the pathetic humanitarian state in Aleppo in light of the latest escalation.
The foreign minister reiterated Qatar's solidarity with the people of Aleppo as well as continuing the Qatari efforts to help alleviate their suffering, pushing for a ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid. For his part, Hijab expressed appreciation and gratitude for Qatar's stance and continued efforts to support the Syrian people.
