Health care workers here will soon have unified guideline to handle influenza and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). This guideline comes as part of two workshops, organised by Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in collaboration with World health Organisation (WHO), to discuss the two health issues.
More than 250 health care workers from various health facilities in the country participated in the workshops aimed at enhancing the clinical management of MERS and influenza cases.
The workshop recommended having a unified national guideline to manage of MERS and influenza here. The workshop also recommended identifying the most susceptible population groups and vaccine them to protect them from infection, as per WHO guidelines. The vulnerable group includes the elderly, pregnant women, children with chronic diseases and healthcare workers.
The meeting also stressed the need to have healthcare workers given influenza vaccines which is now available in all health centers, as they are also most vulnerable to get the diseases. Both the workshops brought in experts from WHO to update the healthcare providers on the latest methods to manage both the diseases. It aimed to boost capability and enhance the expertise of the health practioners here.
The workshops discussed topics including the spread of the diseases, monitoring, examining and treating the diseases.
