Royals-Orioles match postponed due to rain

KANSAS CITY: Game three of baseball’s American League championship series between Kansas City and Baltimore has been postponed because of rain.
The series had been scheduled to resume in Kansas City, with the host Royals holding a two-games-to-none lead over the Orioles in the best-of-seven set.
If needed, game five will be on tomorrow. If the series goes further and returns to Baltimore, games six and seven would be played as originally scheduled on Friday and Saturday.
Although heavy rain had slacked off in Kansas City on Monday afternoon, Major League Baseball senior vice president Peter Woodfork said field conditions had deteriorated. In addition, the forecast said more rain was possible, so officials opted to wait for better conditions.
“We want a game we know we can get through nine innings, hopefully play dry baseball, not risk player safety or uncomfortable fans,” Woodfork said.
“It’s a big day for Kansas City, a big day for Major League Baseball, but we’ll have to delay it until tomorrow.” The opening game of the series was played in cold, rainy weather in Baltimore on Friday, where the Royals’ Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas hit 10th-inning home runs to lift Kansas City to an 8-6 win.
