Qatar Academy officially opened the doors to its new prayer room located in the Primary School building of the campus. Director Dr Eric Sands and Assistant Principals Hanan Al Meer and Maha Al Romaihi led the ribbon cutting for this new space dedicated to prayer and contemplation.
The musallah, which is accessible to teachers, staff and students of QA, used to be an underutilised classroom and “it was only early this year that we began to look at the room in a different perspective,” Dr Sands said. Plans to transform the room were then put into action largely through the efforts of Thuraya Abu Elkhair, Events Assistant at the PR department.
“I was inspired by the unique architectural style of Andalusia and its distinctive ornaments and patterns; a number of different supplication displays were also added to the room and with all this combined, you enter the room and you feel like you are praying in a mosque in Cordoba or Granada,” Abu Elkhair said.
