Doha: The Pakistan Embassy yesterday marked the Independence Day with traditional gaiety and fervour.
Charge d’Affaires Hasan Hashmi hoisted the national flag at the embassy at 7.30am, in the presence of other officials, dignitaries, guests and a large number of members of the community. The messages of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif were read out.
In a message Ambassador Shahzad Ahmad said: “On this day we should pledge to create a progressive society, where education is a priority, where health care is available to everyone, and where jobs are plentiful. Pakistan is proud of its close and brotherly relations with the State of Qatar. Bilateral relations between our two countries, based on mutual respect and shared desire to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in diverse fields, have all along remained cordial.
“In the last two years we have seen an exchange of high-level visits from both countries which have further strengthened our ties. With the valued cooperation and support of Qatar, trade and economic ties between the two countries have improved dramatically.
“The Pakistani Diaspora has also been playing a key role in the progress and development of Qatar and Pakistan. I encourage them all to continue to act as Ambassadors of Pakistan, uphold the highest standards and set the benchmark for others to emulate. Finally, I would like to sincerely thank His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, the Government and people of the State of Qatar for the cooperation and support that my Mission has received from them. Long live Pakistan-Qatar friendship,” Ambassador Ahmad said. The authentic Pakistani breakfast was served and embassy officials also cut a cake.
