Doha: The Youth Company (TYC), Qatar’s social youth enterprise, has launched its annual Ramadan volunteer programme ‘7asanat Olympics’.
The initiative serves as a platform for volunteering and engaging with the community.
Aya Abu Issa, CEO, TYC, said: “The programme continues to grow and add value to the community. It is a platform for youth to channel energy towards serving and giving back to the people. We are grateful for support of our sponsors and thankful to the volunteers for donating time and effort.”
During Ramadan, over 250 volunteers will distribute Iftar boxes at traffic lights before and after Iftar, team up with Qatar Charity for the ‘#Yestahloon’ initiative to provide clothes to low-income workers, collect clothing and household items donated by people.
The volunteers will also visit children at Hamad Medical Corporation facilities and the elderly in their homes to entertain them and join them for Iftar meals to be provided by sponsors.
Khalid Samir, Director of Operations, Al Jaidah Motors & Trading, said: “We are delighted to be the title sponsor of the programme this year, a fantastic initiative led by youth to give back to our communities. Efforts will go to highlight the spirit of the Holy Month, providing support to the needy. As we continue to grow our business locally, it’s key for us to invest our time and resources to also positively impact our society.”
With over 250 youth volunteers dedicating time to collecting and distributing essential items, TYC plans to provide up to 500 volunteering hours to them. Following collection and distribution of charity items, TYC will launch Iftar street campaign, assembling, packing and distributing more than 3,000 boxes at major intersections in Doha. “We are committed to supporting the community and focusing on being a caring neighbour through our programme,” said Issa.
The programme is in third year, and enjoys support sponsors, including title sponsor Jaidah Automotive; platinum sponsor Vodafone Falla Club; logistics partner GWC Logistics; food partner Hilton Doha; water partner Coca Cola Qatar; charity partner Qatar Charity; marketing partner Commverse; and event partner 9Series Events.
