Ministry names Islamweb.net tube short film competition winners

DOHA: The Islamweb.net tube of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the winners of the second edition of a short film contest for Islamweb tube.
The total value of the awards is  more than QR400,000.
The contest was held under the theme ‘Social networking sites and their impact on social life and spread of negative phenomenon in real life’.
Munir Sadiq Al Amiri, a Yemeni national got the first prize for his film Hal Sanaltaqi (Will we meet), followed by Abdurrahaman Rajab, an Egyptian, for Al Amas Lanyaud (Yesterday never comes)
Another Yemeni, Niyazi Mohamad Al Kashi, received the third prize for the film Al Jawhar (The essence); Haji Al Najar from Palestinian ranked fourth for Fatabayanu (You should clarify).
Qatari citizen Hamad Ali Al Hashimi got the fifth prize for Lakal Khiyar (You have the choice). The first, second and third winners received $15,000, $13,000 and $11,000, respectively; fourth to 10th winners $5,000 each; and 11th to 20th winners $3,000 each. A total of 176 short films were received for the contest, Qatar News Agency reports.
The number of participants to the first and second editions of the contest reached over 600, said Jassem Al Ali, Head of Islamweb. The prize money in the second edition was raised to QR400,000 — QR100,000 more compared to the previous edition, he added.
The participants were urged to provide more Islamic contents on social networking sites.
The contest financed by the Calls and Guidance Department at the Ministry aimed to encourage people with talents to make video footages, create awareness and spread knowledge and values in Muslim communities, said Mohammad Hamad Al Kuwari, Head of the department.
