Italian Minister to speak about international cooperation at GU-Q, EAA event tomorrow

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) and Education Above All (EEA) will jointly host a discussion titled “Development Cooperation: The Italian Approach” by Emanuela Claudia Del Re, Italian Vice- Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, tomorrow.

The event, which is being organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Italy in Doha, will be held at Georgetown Building at 12:45pm.

Del Re will address current and future challenges of international development cooperation, highlighting the Italian vision and presenting Italy’s best practices in this field, as well as the recent reform of the Italian system of international cooperation, said a statement issued by the Embassy.

The Italian Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs will also talk about the new challenges brought by conflicts and migration and Italy’s priorities in the framework of sustainable development goals of the UN 2030 Agenda, with a special focus on education.

Vice-Minister Del Re is a scholar, sociologist and an expert in conflict studies, migrations, refugee issues, minorities, and religious phenomena.  

She has carried out detailed research on conflict and areas in transition since 1990, including in the Balkans, the Caucasus, North Africa and the Middle East. She has been International Electoral Observer for the UN, EU, OSCE in more than 15 missions.

Tenured researcher, she obtained the title of Associate Professor in Sociology in 2014. She has been Jean Monnet Professor and course co-coordinator on “European Culture(s), Citizenship(s) and Governance” at the University La Sapienza of Rome, where she has taught for many years.

Elected National Coordinator of the section Sociology of Religion of the Italian Sociological Association (AIS) since 2017, she has created “Mondo Religion - World of Religions”, an initiative promoting interreligious dialogue and citizenship awareness on religions.

She is a member of the scientific committee and editing board, and regular contributor of various leading scientific magazines, including “Limes, Italian Geopolitical Review”. She is the director of the Book Series “Globolitical”, ARACNE, Rome.
