DOHA: Sixty leading government organisations and private companies are participating in a career fair which opened at Qatar University yesterday.
Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi opened the 10th Annual Sponsorship and Internship Career Forum.
The four-day event is organised by Qatar University’s Career Services Centre (QU-CSC) in the building of the College of Business and Economics.
The forum ‘Here I Start’ aims to give students a platform to meet and communicate with potential employers for employment and training opportunities.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by QU President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham; Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer Dr Humaid Al Midfaa; Vice-President for Student Affairs Dr Khalid Al Khanji; ministry officials, QU faculty members, students and staff.
The fair is open to female high school and university students on the first two days and male students in last two days.
“The event brings together students and employees from ministries and institutions and provides professional opportunities for students and helps them achieve their ambitions and aspirations,” said the Minister.
He highlighted the participating organisations’ role in supporting and sponsoring Qatari students during their academic journey, offering them appropriate jobs after graduation and training opportunities to enable them to acquire skills.
“This contributes to building national capacities and advancing investment in human and knowledge capital in line with the needs of the labour market and the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030,” he said.
Dr Al Derham said: “The forum aims to help students get a clear vision of their professional life as they plan for their future. Through their interaction with representatives of institutions from various sectors, they will be able to develop a strong relationship with prospective employers and get better acquainted with the needs of the labour market.
“The forum also contributes to offering high school students a comprehensive picture of QU programmes, and help them choose their specialisations in line with their aspirations and the needs of the labour market.”
Maha Al Marri, Director of the centre, said: “The annual forum highlights QU’s commitment to providing the local labour market with qualified and skilled students. It also reflects QU’s responsibility to serve the needs of the community. The centre is well-placed to host the event which provides our students with internship and training opportunities that prepare them for the world of work. We hope that our students benefit from interactions to reach their career goals.”
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce presents employment and training opportunities to attract national cadres
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce is also participating in the fair which runs until Thursday.
The ministry’s participation for the third consecutive year is within the framework of its efforts to attract national cadres and retain them in positions in line with the needs and vacancies at the ministry and build cooperation bridges with educational institutions across Qatar.
It is presenting plans and programmes to attract Qatari cadres and encourage them to apply to jobs in the areas of business management, translation, accounting, public relations, economics and international relations.
The ministry is also offering training opportunities and internal and external scholarship opportunities to students who will also be informed about the services offered by it and its main responsibilities.
Through its participation, the ministry aims to further enhance cooperation with QU, building on a previous training programme that provided students with practical and technical skills to equip them with tools and competencies that will allow them to effectively join the labour market.
During its participation in the previous edition of the fair, the ministry offered 14 internship opportunities in the fields of business management, economics and international affairs by providing students with practical training opportunities at the ministry and hiring graduates according to job vacancies at the ministry.
The fair introduces students to opportunities in fields, including academic follow-up, summer training programmes and jobs vacancies at government and private agencies. It seeks to familiarise students with disciplines and employment opportunities offered by exhibitors and the needs of the labour market. The Peninsula
