Ramallah: The number of Palestinian prisoners declared dead whose identities have been confirmed since the start of the Israeli occupation's offensive on the Gaza Strip in 2023 has risen to 88, including 52 detainees from Gaza, following the announcement of the death of Hatem Rayan, an ambulance officer detained from Gaza.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said the prisoners died as a result of torture, starvation, medical crimes, and systematic assaults, in addition to a series of crimes involving deprivation, abuse, humiliation, and detention in conditions that violate human dignity.

The statement added that many of the bodies of detainees from Gaza remain subject to enforced disappearance, along with dozens who were allegedly executed in the field. It noted that images of prisoners' bodies and remains handed over after the ceasefire constitute clear evidence of systematic extrajudicial executions committed by the occupation against prisoners and detainees outside the framework of the law.

It further stated that the current phase is the bloodiest in the history of the Palestinian prisoners' movement, with the number of identified prisoners who have died since 1967 rising to 325.

The number of prisoners whose bodies are being withheld and whose identities are known has also reached 96, including 85 since the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip.
