Various organisations celebrated National Sport Day yesterday with a number of events designed to foster a culture of sports and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Ashghal
The Public Works Authority, Ashghal, marked the National Sports Day at a sports hall in Aspire Zone. H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, Minister of Municipality and Environment, Dr Eng Saad bin Ahmad Al Mohannadi, President of Ashghal, and a galaxy of senior and junior officials and employees and their families participated in the activities, including football, volleyball, basketball, physical exercises, contests and various activities for the children.

Ministry of Economy and Commerce
MEC held a series of sporting events for its employees and their families at the Katara Cultural Village. The activities began with warm-up exercises followed by beach soccer and volleyball matches between staff members of different departments.

QRCS
Qatar Red Crescent (QRCS) organised diverse sports, recreational and informative activities apart from offering medical services for free for the visitors of different ages and walks of life, at Katara Cultural Village. Many QRCS officials, staff, and volunteers took part in the events, including the Secretary-General, Ali Hassan Al Hammadi. QRCS' section saw many activities, including information for the visitors about QRCS' humanitarian mission and the value of volunteerism, as well as sports activities for adults and children such as exercising, football, volleyball, tennis, running, and other games.
As usual, in all events inside Qatar, QRCS' medical services actively participated in the celebrations. At both Katara and the Diplomatic Club, QRCS medical officers received visitors, distributed health awareness publications, trained them about first aid and CPR, performed blood sugar/pressure tests for free, and medically covered the areas with ambulance vehicles and bicycles.
Also, QRCS' Al-Khor branch held several health and sports activities at Al-Khor Sports Club, in cooperation with Qatar Guest Center.
A QRCS fleet of 40 ambulances, 130 paramedics, and 15 doctors were positioned around the different locations yesterday to take care of the public and intervene in emergencies.

Ooredoo
Ooredoo marked a successful Qatar National Sport Day, with visitors arriving at the Museum of Islamic Art Park (MIA) braving the rains, in the hope of enjoying a range of free sports and healthy activities. A host of Ooredoo senior executives also attended the annual event, which provided free access to sports for Qatar’s communities. This year’s activities were designed to suit every fitness level and age. Highlights of the activities included a penalty shootout, tug of war, karate, aerobics, handball, human chess, basketball and more.

Vodafone
Vodafone marked the day by engaging both its staff and hundreds of people across the country with various community activities. At Al Shaqab indoor arena, visitors were able to enjoy the Vodafone digital sporting activities. Supported by Vodafone’s state of the art mobile network, young and old had fun trying a bike simulator that replicates a real outdoor biking experience with options for group rides and races. Playing football and basketball via virtual reality using Vodafone’s 4G network also proved to be a huge hit with visitors.
Meanwhile, the Filipino community was also brought closer together this Sports Day with the Vodafone supported “Be fit with Kulinarya Qatar” health and fitness Bazaar that featured a variety of fitness activities, healthy food and even an opportunity to take medical check-ups.

Qatar University
QU staff, faculty, students and their families joined people all over Qatar yesterday in celebrating National Sport Day. Through the Sports Activities Department, QU conducted a series of sporting and fitness events on its campus and at Katara. Themed “Sports Unite Us”, the activities were organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Community College of Qatar (CCQ), and Katara, the official host.
At QU Female Sports Hall, QU female students and staff participated in a friendly football match with their colleagues from CCQ. The programme also included a march past, fitness, aerobics, Zumba and yoga sessions, and children were catered with games and sport-related activities. Also on the programme was an exhibition featuring healthy nutrition booths, and health awareness and medical and nutrition awareness corners.
At Katara, the activities included a walking march for kids and adults, a paragliding show performed by a team from QU Air Sports Club, cultural and traditional games, and beach activities such as volleyball and football, as well as sports activities for adults and kids.

QIIB
Despite the rains a large number of QIIB employees participated in the ‘Walkathon’ organised by the Qatar Central Bank at Doha Corniche. QIIB CEO Abdulbasit Ahmad Al  Shaibei and senior bank executives were among the participants. The participants gathered early in the morning in front of QIIB’s headquarters at the Grand Hamad Street before heading together to the marathon’s start point on the Doha Corniche.

QIB
Qatar Islamic Bank held a series of activities for QIB employees and their families to emphasise the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle. Participants were able to test their fitness and physical abilities through a series of sport activities conducted by experienced professionals.

Nakilat
Nakilat celebrated the day with a series of sporting activities for its employees. Hundreds of Nakilat’s employees and their families turned up to the event at the New Onaiza Park and took part in sporting activities such as football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis and badminton. Activities were also organised at the venue to engage and entertain staff members and their families in addition to promoting sports.
