DOHA: The College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q) Health Sciences students took flight last week with the help of Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) LifeFlight crew.
Students from the Advanced Care Paramedicine programme visited the helipad of HMC in an applied learning activity to help support their skillset as allied healthcare professionals.
The students learned about providing care when a patient is being transferred via helicopter and working with an aeromedical team. They covered topics such as safe orientation around the aircraft during landing, loading of a patient and procedures on how to establish a landing zone when a helicopter has been requested to a scene.
The students also had the opportunity to see the equipment in the helicopter and how it can be configured to handle different patient situations. “Partnering with HMC and other healthcare providers in Qatar is what we do that differentiates us as CNA-Q,” said Dr. Andrea Smilski, Dean of the College’s School of Health Sciences.
