Islamabad: Pakistan and the UK on Tuesday agreed to enhance defence ties by taking their counterterrorism cooperation to the next level.
The decision came during talks today between Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and visiting British delegation headed by Secretary of State for Defence Philip Hammond.
Sharif said Pakistan and the United Kingdom should enhance mutual cooperation in defence, sciences, technology and trade, adding that a stable and secure Afghanistan is necessary for a safe and prosperous Pakistan.
The British delegation held a separate meeting with Pakistan’s minister of Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, during which the two sides discussed issues of mutual concern between the two countries.
37 rebels killed in Afghanistan
Kabul: At least 37 Taliban militants were killed and 17 others were injured in joint operations launched by Afghan security forces and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) during the past twenty-four hours in different regions of the country. Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry said in a statement today that Afghan forces carried out with ISAF several joint operations in different regions of the country, killing 37 Taliban militants, wounding 17 and arresting 13 others.
The statement added that large quantities of heavy and light weapons were seized during the operations.
However, the statement did not say if there were any casualties on the security forces.
Blast injures 2 security men
Islamabad: Two Pakistani security men of Khasadar Force were injured in an explosion that occurred yesterday in Khyber Agency in Pakistan.
Sources said that the improvised explosive device (IED) planted on Pak-Afghan Highway near Takhta Beg checkpost went off with a bang injuring two security men of Khasadar Force, according to Pakistan’s.
