Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani performed the funeral prayers, at the Mosque of Mesemier cemetery on the bodies of the Lance Corporal Mohammad Awadh Salem, and the troopers Mohammad Dawood Khayyal and Mohammad Nasser Mohammad, who were martyred while carrying out their duty within the Saudi-led Operation ‘Restoring Hope in Yemen’.
The Emir participated along with the families of the martyrs in the burying of the martyrs bodies. Emir offered condolences to the families of the martyrs, praying Almighty Allah to grant their souls rest in Paradise.
The funeral prayers were also attended by the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and several people.
The Emir received last evening a telephone call from President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi of the Republic of Yemen, during which he expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy to the Emir on the martyrdom of three soldiers from the Qatari Armed Forces while carrying out their duty in Yemen. The Yemeni President also expressed his condolences to the families of the martyrs and the Qatari people.
The Qatari Armed Forces yesterday announced the martyrdom of three of its soldiers in the line of duty as part of the Arab coalition forces for ‘Restoring Hope in Yemen’.
In a statement, the Qatari Armed Forces mourned martyred soldiers, who died on Monday while performing their duty as part of the Saudi-led Arab coalition forces in Yemen and expressed sincere condolences to the families of the martyrs.
Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Major General (Pilot) H E Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem, along with a number of senior commanders of the armed forces received the bodies of the three martyrs at Al Udeid Air Base last evening.
The bodies were directly taken to Mesaimeer grave yard where the martyrs were laid to rest.
Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani tweeted: “Our brave soldiers have fought with their lives and made heroism with their bloods defending the rights of the oppressed…May Almighty Allah bless our martyrs and let their souls rest in Paradise”. Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah also tweeted yesterday conveying his condolences.
On Monday afternoon four Qatari soldiers were moving in a land cruiser to replace their colleagues at a checkpoint at the Saudi- Yemen border area. Not far from the checkpoint the driver lost control over the vehicle which overturned twice leading to the immediate death of two at the site. The third soldier was rescued but he died later of severe head injuries, Al Sharq reported yesterday. The fourth soldier is in stable condition and is recuperating in the military camp.
Dr Anwar Gargash, minister of state for foreign affairs of the UAE and Acting Kuwaiti Charge d’Affaires to Qatar, Counsellor Nasir Akar Al Ghanim also extended their condolences to Qatar, its leadership, government and the people.
Son of martyr Mohammed Awad Salim said, “My father performed his duty toward his country and the nation. He sacrificed his soul defending dignity”.
He added that he was one of the heroes of The Battle of Khafji (the first major ground engagement of the Gulf War in 1991).
“He got the martyrdom he was longing for. He was so proud of being a member of the Qatari Armed Forces,” he added.
The son said that his father had called the family and conveyed Eid greeting, before his death.
Father of martyr Mohammed Nasser said, “My son joined Qatari Armed Forces four years ago. He called to greet his family during Eid. I also spoke to him.
“He was very much loved by his family and friends.
“ I am proud of him for his contribution to restoring stability and security in Yemen and for defending the rights and legitimacy of the country.” “Soldier Mohammed Nasser Mohammed (24 years) is my relative and close friend. He called and greeted his family on the day of Arafat and he told them he will talk later after finishing his duty but he did not,” Mohammed Abdullah, his cousin and friend told Al Sharq.
