Doha, Qatar: As Qatar mourns the passing of Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who died on July 12, 2026, the Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al-Khater has shared an old video from Doha Institute for Graduate Studies' Graduation Day, paying heartfelt tribute to the great leader.

The Minister describes HH the Father Amir as a man whose legacy will continue to shape Qatar's national identity and its role on the world stage.

Sharing the video, the Education Minister characterised HH the Father Amir as a leader "...who championed just causes everywhere, and who, as far as I know, never turned away anyone who was wronged or in need... It is of HH the Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, that I speak."

Al Khater, in the video, speaks of HH the Father Amir being a visionary who refused to let Qatar remain hostage to difficult realities of the time.

"When all indicators suggested that Qatar would remain an obscure state on the shores of the Gulf, one man had a different vision. He saw what others could not... He invested in the future and made history, not only for his homeland, but for the entire Arab world," Al Khater said.

She then lists the achievements of HH the Father Amir, speaking of the landmark projects he undertook including the launch of Al Jazeera, the establishment of Qatar Foundation, and Qatar Museums.

She concludes by saying that HH the Father Amir left an enduring impact, the imprint of which can be seen across various countries.
