Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed Phase 1 of Ali bin Abi Talib Street development in May 2017. Phase 1 constitutes 65 percent of the total work on Ali bin Abi Talib Street.

This project is part of works to develop roads and roundabouts in various areas in greater Doha.

Phase 1 included the conversion of both Al Maahed and Al Qafila roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections as well as the development and opening of two lanes on Ali Bin Abi Talib Road which connects C-Ring and D-Ring roads.

Phase 2 of the project has begun as scheduled on May 28, 2017. The works include the addition of a third lane to Ali bin Abi Talib Street and a service road in each direction. This is in addition to developing the infrastructure such as stormwater drainage network, street lighting, landscaping, and installing interlock while protecting existing utilities.

The project also comprises the development of Al Maahed Street in Slata area and Al Qafila Street which connects Salwa Road and Ali bin Abi Talib Street. Works include widening the mentioned streets to two lanes in each direction.

In order to enhance traffic capacity and to reduce any inconvenience resulting from the implementation of the project works as much as possible, two lanes will remain open to traffic in each direction and access roads to residential buildings and business institutes will remain open throughout the project period.

Ashghal has installed signboards onsite to alert drivers during work period.

All Phases of Ali bin Abi Talib Street and surrounding roads development are expected to be completed on September 15, 2017.
