Hong Kong--Hong Kong shares started the day on a high note Thursday, rising in line with Shanghai despite a soft lead from New York.
The Hang Seng Index added 0.38 percent, or 102.35 points, to 27,351.63.
In mainland China the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.26 percent, or 11.47 points, to 4,387.23.
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, added 0.30 percent, or 7.45 points, to 2,453.32.
