
DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has signed an agreement with Qatar Entertainment Company (Tasali), for allocating 14 meters of space at the edutainment city, KidZania, Doha under construction at Aspire Zone to raise awareness among children about consumer rights.
The deal makes the ministry the first strategic government partner and is part of its efforts to promote children’s understanding and raise awareness about the services offered by the ministry.
KidZania has been designed in the form of a small town which mimics a real city and has its official currency, the “KidZo” for children in the city. It also contains streets, cars, houses and public national institutions such as police department, hospitals, schools, banks, a TV studio, a radio station, and medical clinics, among others.
Children will be educated on commercial fraud and how to distinguish between original and counterfeit products. They will also learn about the ministry’s role in consumer rights and consumer protection.
The ministry will also highlight the rights and duties of traders and customers and its inspection campaigns to detect violations of the consumer protection law and combat commercial fraud.
Simulation programmes will be introduced for other services provided by the ministry, along with age-appropriate information and tips to instil entrepreneurial and leadership skills and traits in children.
Kids will also be introduced to investment fundamentals that will benefit them in their future investment projects and business ventures.
Tariq Abdulaziz Al Sada, Director, Public Relations and Communications at the ministry, said through its participation at KidZania, the ministry aspires to instil economy, commerce and consumer rights principles in children aged 4-14.
Children will be educated on the importance of trade and introduced to economic concepts in an interactive, fun and safe environment.
Programmes are designed to teach children responsibility and accountability, allowing them to take on adult roles and experience a realistic work environment.
