DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce which has a consumer rights’ cell, has closed down a company for selling electrical appliances with false country of origin labels, for a month as punishment.
The company is based in Al Wakrah and the items sold included switches and air-conditioner connectors falsely advertised as having been manufactured in the UK whereas they were made in China.
According to a ministry statement, the closure was ordered after the violation was detected by the ministry’s inspectors during crackdowns carried out to monitor the market and check price manipulations and sale of counterfeit goods.
Inspectors also fined the company, said the statement.
An announcement about the closure is posted on the ministry’s website and in two local daily newspapers at the company’s expense. The ministry has urged people to report suspected violations to its Consumer Protection and Anti-Commercial Fraud Department on hotline 16001 or email: [email protected]
