Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to provide workers with facilities for computer learning and Internet access.
With this, Ashghal joins government and private entities in the ‘Better Connections Programme’ launched by the ministry.
Meshal Sultan Al Hitmi, Director, Shared Services Affairs, Ashghal, signed the agreement with Reem Al Mansouri, Assistant Undersecretary, Digital Society at the ministry.
The programme provides a practical framework, offering workers access to information and communication technology (ICT) at their compounds. As per the MoU, migrant workers will have facilities equipped with computers and Internet connection to facilitate communication. The programme will also provide them with suitable content and train them in the use of these technologies. Ashghal will boost the digital culture among migrant workers hired by its contractors and provide them with access to ICT at their compounds. This will help them achieve stability which will improve productivity. Ashghal will encourage contractors to adopt the initiative, while coordinating with the ministry in the field of communications and technology to improve the work environment for workers.
Al Hitmi said: “We are delighted to collaborate with the ministry through the MoU which will contribute to improving the condition of migrant workers. “We are keen to participate in initiatives that serve the community and support the development plans to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030.”The Peninsula
