Doha: Demand for garments based on Qatari Flag is at its peak with designers and boutiques receiving huge number orders. White and maroon colours are taking on Qatar's fashion trend with women and children gearing up for the National Day celebrations.
“Qatar National Day is near; we are receiving many orders every day. Qatari families mostly request for velvet neck scarves, designed particularly for the occasion. The price of scarf is QR160, the embroidery is done by machine and the high cost is for the unique material. We receive at least ten orders each day and also some four pieces are sold every day,” said Ansari Adil employee at Royal Elegance Boutique in Muntazah.
“Last year, the trend was of velvet abaya, but this year,we did not expect the temperature to dip much and so we designed only the scarves,” he further added.
Designers and tailors have been receiving high number of requests for custom-made abayas based on the Qatari Flag. Most of the boutiques have stopped taking more orders for dresses to be delivered until the National Day.
“Qatari women demand abayas, inspired by the National Flag, over the scarves. The scarves are mostly for teenagers. We receive orders for Qatari Flag themed abayas on daily basis and for now we cannot take anymore orders, though readymade ones are available," said Arif ur Rehman, an employee at Remeya Boutique.
“The rates we have is reasonable for the expats who are interested in shopping with us. The velvet neck scarf costs QR160 and above at every boutique, but we are providing the same material in QR90 and abaya on order for QR300,” said an employee at Abatch Boutique. The expats in the country are also set to join in the celebrations with many altering traditional costumes to match the national flag.
“There is high demand of special Moroccan party dresses for National Day celebrations. Some 16 orders are placed every day on an average. The Moroccan gowns in white and maroon colour with unique pearls belt is a huge hit among the customers. The orders will be closed today and we have some 41 gowns which are being embroidered specially for the National Day. This gown costs QR2,000,” said a designer at Maharat Al Khaleej Boutique.
Varieties of brand-new designs of ladies and children’s readymade garments is available at Al Ajyad Boutique.
“Due to high demand, we are now left with limited range of readymade garments. We stitched more than 1,000 garments for ladies and children for the season. However, as the National Day is getting closer, the store is running out of variety. We have cotton neck scarf worth QR60, chiffon gown with brand new design of Qatar Flag is worth QR250, velvet jacket for ladies is for QR150, short frocks to wear over abaya for teenagers are worth QR200 and special Mumbai silk gown is worth QR300,” said Zai Ur Rehman, an employee at Ajyad boutique.
